Tottenham Boss Thomas Frank Calls Goalkeeper Critics 'Not Genuine Fans'
The Cottagers Begin Powerfully to Beat Spurs and Raise Pressure on Frank
Tottenham Hotspur supporters who jeered goalkeeper Vicario were informed later "those individuals cannot be real Spurs supporters" by boss Frank.
Spurs conceded two scores in the opening six minutes to fall 2-1 to their opponents, marking their tenth Premier League at home defeat of the year.
But the primary talking point was Fulham's next goal when the keeper lost possession well outside his box.
The goalkeeper came out to deal with a high pass and carried the ball near the sideline.
However, rather than kicking it into touch, the Italy international turned and tried to clear away, but lost his footing as the ball glanced off Wilson and was collected by King.
King laid the ball off to Wales midfield player Harry Wilson, who bent a strike into the net from the sideline measured at 36.6 yards.
Moments later when the ball went to the keeper again, some Spurs fans jeered him.
The team were jeered off at the interval, with the side 2-0 down, and again at full-time.
A particular of those jeering episodes truly irritated the manager.
"It came to my attention some of our fans apparently booed the incident and booed following, which, in my view is totally unjustifiable," the Danish manager commented regarding the fans' reaction to his shot-stopper.
"[They] can't be real Spurs fans that act that way. Fair enough jeering after the match, fine, but when we are in play, we are backing one another, we are behind one another going forward."
Tete had handed Fulham a fourth-minute lead prior to Wilson's goal – with Kudus scoring for Tottenham in an better second-half performance.
Former top-flight goalkeeper Joe Hart remarked that the second goal was "completely preventable".
"I certainly understand the supporters' frustration," Hart added. "I am aware the role the keeper is playing. He is a excellent squad member, he is a real leader in the dressing room but ultimately you are going to be assessed by your actions.
"The keeper was heavily involved in what turned out to be the decisive goal."
'It's In the Game, I Can Handle It'
Thomas Frank Stood Up For His Goalkeeper Vicario Following the Game
Italy international Vicario is in his third campaign with Tottenham.
He stated following the game that he had to take the feedback.
"The second score was a mistake of mine, I take responsibility for it," he commented.
"The intent was to kick the ball far and I simply hit the ball in a bad manner. That made an even bigger mountain to overcome."
He said being booed "comes with football".
"I am mature, how can I respond?" he added. "The team cannot be affected by the circumstances in the crowd. Supporters have the entitlement to do what they think.
"It's on the team to remain increasingly calm, to focus on ourselves. We are missing in calmness and calmness to overturn results. Today is a poor defeat and it's hard to accept."
'I Was Surprised No One Went Back to the Line'
Despite Vicario's error, it was not an simple score for Wilson to score.
In fact it was the second longest-range Premier League score of the campaign – following Adams' forty-three point three yard goal for the Cherries against Sunderland, which incidentally too came on the same day.
Wilson stated he was "a little bit surprised" that he still had an empty net to target.
Ten moments elapsed between Vicario coming out of his area and Wilson shooting – which was five moments following the kick.
"It seemed to me like the keeper was away from the box for a long time," Wilson remarked.
"I was surprised not one of the back four went back to the line. When not one of them defended the goal, my interest sparked a bit.
"[Destiny] Udogie slipped too, which gave me a little extra opportunity. Then it was all about attempting to make the right connection and get it on target. I felt a good feeling, the moment it came off my foot, that it was heading in."
'During in a Bad Spell, Everything Appears to Go Against You'
Jeering While We Are Still in Play Is Completely Unacceptable - Frank
While the keeper's mistake dominated coverage, this was an overall poor day for Spurs to extend their home struggles.
The match was their 10th home loss of the year in the league, a joint team record along with nineteen ninety-four and 2003.
The side still have home fixtures against the manager's former club the Bees and champions Liverpool to play prior to the close of the year.
Just a single of those wins have come after the manager took over from Ange Postecoglou in the summer.
"If you are down 2-0 following the opening, there is a huge challenge to climb," said the boss.
"When you're in a poor run, everything appears to go against you as well – the opening was a deflected attempt, the second is a error from the keeper.
"The outcome leaves us in a place where we have suffered another match. Every game has a unique story, today we were defeated in the early stages.
"We just need to continue striving. The second half was significantly improved and with luck something we can utilize to learn."
Tottenham have been defeated in 4 straight at home London derbies for the initial time in the Premier League.
Furthermore they are recording 9.5 attempts and 3.2 efforts on goal per match in the division – their poorest averages on record in a single campaign (since at least the 2003-04 season).
Former Fulham midfield player Murphy stated that Frank has to ride the storm.
"He must take the criticism," Murphy said. "He's taken a prestigious role at a major team with enormous expectation. There is scrutiny and responsibility that comes with that.
"The performances at their stadium have been disappointing and they have to improve {quickly|
