Toronto Blue Jays Earn Fall Classic Showdown With Los Angeles Dodgers
The outfielder contributed to the Houston Astros claiming the World Series in the 2017 season.
Toronto's Blue Jays reached their first championship series after the 1993 season by overcoming the Mariners in the decisive seventh game of the American League Championship Series.
Behind 3-1, Springer smashed a three-run blast in the seventh frame, guiding the Toronto squad in the majors to a 4-3 series triumph in the best-of-seven series. Awaiting them are the defending champions, who are the defending champions, in the forthcoming Fall Classic.
"I'm just so happy for everyone here, the city, the nation," said Springer, a key player of the Houston Astros team that secured the 2017 championship. "This is such an unbelievable moment."
The veteran has now hit 23 total post-season home runs, making him third all-time trailing only Manny Ramirez (29) and Jose Altuve (27).
"There's probably not anyone else on planet Earth that I'd choose in that spot except for George Springer with his playoff prowess," said manager John Schneider.
The Mariners, after leading the series 2-0 and 3-2, remain the one club yet to make an appearance in a championship series.
Wilson stated "certainly that it's going to sting" following his team's loss at Toronto's Rogers Centre, but applauded their performance throughout the year.
"This is a unique group. Sadly that we ended up on the wrong side of this one," he remarked.
Toronto claimed the title on their two prior appearances in 1992 and 1993, and will welcome the Los Angeles in game one on this Friday.
