The Studio's Giant Snake Movie Reboot Is a Brilliantly Simple Concept

Regardless of how the studio's reboot of giant snake movie Anaconda turns out, it's hard to deny its premise is strong: Two lifelong friends, dealing with middle-age restlessness, at last pursue their ambition of recreating the late-'90s animal thriller featuring J.Lo and Ice Cube. However, confronted by financial constraints and a disastrous snake-handling mishap, the duo opts to film on the fly, only to come face to face with a very real enormous serpent that wants to eat them.

A-List Talent Roster

This fresh Anaconda has some beloved names attached: Adventure comedy veteran the energetic Jack Black and Ant-Man lead the charismatic Paul Rudd star as wannabe filmmakers Doug and Jeff, respectively. And based on the initial preview, unveiled this week, Black's comedic vigor and Paul Rudd charm should work wonders in rendering Anaconda pretty easy to swallow. Seeing Black sprint from a gigantic snake with a boar carcass strapped to his body epitomizes cinematic fun.

Additional Stars and Filmmaking Crew

Alongside the leads in the new Anaconda are Steve Zahn, Thandiwe Newton, Daniela Melchior, and Selton Mello. Anaconda comes from director Tom Gormican (the meta-comedy Massive Talent), written by Gormican alongside Kevin Etten (Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F).

Release Date

Anaconda, this new version, slithers to cinemas this Christmas Day.
