This past weekend, the administration announced that Donald Trump has ordered the dispatch of the state guard to Chicago, at the same time as a court official blocked his team from deploying forces to Portland.

White House Confirms Illinois City Deployment

A press secretary for the administration confirmed that the chief executive had given the go-ahead for using the state of Illinois militia personnel, referencing what she called “ongoing violent riots and unrest” that municipal authorities have been unable to stop.

In Oregon, federal judge Karin Immergut concurred with the position of local officials that the President sending federal guard forces to the city would probably escalate rather than ease public unrest.

“This judgment supports what local citizens already know: the legal system worked, and the truth has prevailed,” the top official in Oregon said after the restraining order was approved. “There is no insurrection in this municipality. No threat to national security. No fires, no devices, no loss of life due to social disturbances.”

State Leader Describes Action Unnecessary

The Democratic governor, JB Pritzker labeled the action unnecessary and “an orchestrated display – lacking genuine intent to protect public safety.”

Federal Court Blocks Portland Guard Movement

The administration has suffered a setback to his approach of sending troops to municipalities with Democratic mayors he calls lawless, following a federal court blocked his administration’s attempt to deploy the armed forces to the Oregon city.

The chief executive had announced on September 27 that he would deploy troops to the city, “authorizing Complete Power, if needed”, ignoring pleas from local officials and the Oregon's representatives. An alliance of multiple municipal chiefs in the region had resisted the deployment.
