This event was expected as among the more competitive runnings of this unique seven-furlong contest for female horses. Yet, vet checks led to several scratches earlier today, including leading runners Sweet Azteca and Tamara.

As a result, the field now appears much smaller, though conditioner Bob Baffert has a major opportunity to claim a twentieth Breeders’ Cup victory. His entrants include Richi along with Splendora, while Hope Road, winner of the Grade One Ballerina Stakes, is considered the main challenger.
